ABSENT: Deputy Mayor Jepsen
STAFF: Bob Olander, Deputy City Manager; Julie Modrzejewski, Assistant City Manager; Joyce Nichols, Director of Communications and Intergovernmental Relations; and Rika Cecil, Environmental Coordinator
Mayor Hansen called the meeting to order at 6:20 p.m.
Ms. Cecil introduced Jane Lamensdorf-Bucher, Watershed Coordinator, who works with King County and twenty-seven different jurisdictions on water quality issues.
Ms. Lamensdorf-Bucher gave a presentation on salmon conservation efforts in the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed. Shoreline is part of this watershed. She explained the reasons for the decline in salmon habitat and what Water Resource Inventory Area 8 (WRIA-8) and local jurisdictions are doing to address the problem. She outlined near-term and long-term strategies, including the Draft Chinook Plan, which focuses on habitat restoration and protection projects by reach.
Mr. Olander commented that water quality improvements would likely be a focus of City policy since Shoreline is part of the Tier 3 solutions.
