Mayor Hansen called the
meeting to order at
Tom
Boydell, Economic Development Manager, described the proposed composition of the
Economic Development Task Force. This issue was discussed by the City Council at
its retreat and a process was agreed upon for establishing the task force, the
charter and next steps.
The
proposed charter includes:
Council discussed the
proposed composition of the task force.
As suggested at the retreat, six members were proposed to be appointed by
various community organizations and six individuals are to be selected by the
City Manager. The six individuals
should include one person from the environmental technologies or environmental
industries area of expertise; others should represent banking, small and/or
large businesses, developers, real estate experts, and so forth.
Mr.
Boydell reviewed the proposed nominees with the Council. Councilmembers agreed to appoint six
individuals suggested from the following groups: Chamber of Commerce (Rick Stephens),
Forward Shoreline (Rich Matthews),
Councilmember Grace
highlighted the need for a health care professional.
Councilmember Ransom
suggested naming a representative of the gambling industry and recommended a
member of the Mitchell family, who owns the largest amount of land and two
mini-casinos on
Several Councilmembers suggested naming Sunny Kim, executive
director of the Korean Chamber of Commerce, as an additional
member.
Councilmember Fimia said she would prefer no members be appointed who are
involved in City politics.
Council also said that staff
should ask a representative of the auto industry, Chuck Olsen, to participate if
Mr. Hubbell is unable to do so.
Council then discussed the
remaining appointees and agreed on the following eight
individuals:

was agreed that the next step is for Mr. Boydell to confirm the task force
membership and convene the group so that it can move forward as soon as
possible.
